Food Work

Photographing food is one of my favorite things to do.  These are wrapped scallops from a great Italian restaurant nearby.  Very fresh ingredients and it looks like the chefs know how to not overcook green beans.  This shot is mostly available light from windows camera right.

Master Chef Dessert Take Two

Chocolate raspberry.  High quality ingredients.  Intense chocolate flavor.  Hard light/soft light, kicker light.

Master Chef Dessert

Felt like photographing desserts so I decided to buy some individual ones from The Chocolate Mill here in Glens Falls. This peanut/chocolate tart is the first shot.  Its great to have such quality items nearby.  I was only able to work with them for a little while as food can lose its look quickly.  Besides.  I wound up eating them all before I should have.  Hard to keep your hands off food like this!

Open House at Saratoga Race Track.

Spent part of the afternoon walking around the track facilities shooting whatever looked interesting.  Not crowded so it was great being able to photograph areas without too many people.   I guess that included these urinals.  They look so ready for action.  Sweep the floor before opening day please.

A few Steeple Chase races today to keep things interesting.  There were a number of photographers around all practicing their trigger finger timing for the upcoming season I'm sure.

This dining room really was lit red from the overhead translucent cover.  I thought it was kind of neat looking.

Last but not least we have Sparkles the Clown in action.

Great new restaurant. Phila Fusion, Saratoga

Spent a good part of the afternoon yesterday shooting food at a this new restaurant in Saratoga.  I have to say  the presentation is the best I have seen.  Just beautifully done.  Tasted great too!  The shots were all done during service time so I was working as fast a possible.  This of course makes it a challenge to quickly decide on lighting and composition.  The lighting was a combination of window light camera right and one softbox camera left at about 10:00.  Some reflector work also.

Sword Throwers

Went out last night to watch some of the Drum Corp competition here in Glens Falls.  Years ago I belonged to a corp but we did not compete at the level these do.  This is as good as it gets outside of the senior corps which I'm not even sure there are very many of nowadays.  While walking around the back where they were getting ready to perform I came across this group of color guard members practicing their routine.  I think the swords are actually sharp.  Only kidding.

Dog Walkin Fund Raiser

Did some photography for a dog walk fundraiser last Saturday.  This dog wanted to know how he should motivate himself for his photo.  Told him to just be himself and it will all work out fine.  He kept sticking his tongue out at me so it took a while to get the smile we were looking for.

Rising Stars

Spent this afternoon photographing some up and coming performance artists at the Charles Woods Theater here in Glens Falls.  There are twelve artists chosen each year from local talent who put on a show together.  Almost done with the photos.  Next week will finish up two more that could not be there today and we will do a group portrait with everyone.  Photos today in a hallway with front and back lighting.  Since the background wall was not all that great looking I decided to blue it.

Americade 2010 Coming Soon

Down on the sidewalk next to the Steamboats on Lake George shooting some
images of the Americade staff.  Beautiful day but had to deal with direct sun behind us.
Glad I found a power outlet nearby.   2400 watt second power packs do come in handy
when you need them!  Nice bike.

Just got back from a shoot at the Glens Falls Police station for an article they are going to
have running in the next issue of Success Magazine Ltd.  I do these kind of shoots
working as fast as I can so as to take up the least amount of the clients time.
Two lights maximum most times.  Sometimes I think I work too fast for my own good.
Special thanks to the Chief and Captain who is pictured here.
This photo just one light camera right in a small shoot through umbrella with
ambient room light as fill about 1-1/2 stops below flash f-stop.

Glens Falls Neon

I was walking around downtown looking for neon details.  This photo worked out pretty well I think.
Next time I'll start a little earlier to catch some brighter ambient light to start with.  There is that short
period of time where neon and ambient mix perfectly.  Also.  Always bring your tripod!  For some
other shots I wished that I'd had it.

Saratoga City Tavern

Had some fun shooting images of the owners of the Saratoga City Tavern  for some ads they are going to run.   Beer looked good but never got a chance to sample!  Maybe this weekend.  Lighting.  One umbrella camera right on the guys with daylight coming in the windows from the left.  One small umbrella down the end of the bar to highlight the liquor behind the bar a little.

Mrs. New York 2009/10

Got to meet Mrs. New York yesterday for a quick shoot in the studio.
